Man of Science

I don't know exactly what this site is going to entail, this is my first adventure into the blog-o-sphere. Suggestions for anything cool to be put up here will always be appreciated, don't be shocked if it is mostly nerdy science stuff and a lot of other random stuff that I am into at the moment. I am sure there will be a lot of TV and movie stuff, as well as Yankee updates constantly.

And now for something serious.
The woman above is a woman very near and dear to my heart. Her name is Anne, and she’s my best friend Matt’s (aka Hatkoff’s) mother. I’ve known her since forever, and truly consider her to be family. Today is her birthday.
About six months ago, we learned Anne had Stage 4 lung carcinoma. I happened to be home in Connecticut the day Matt found out. A couple nights later, Matt said to me “This isn’t supposed to happen to us. This kind of thing doesn’t happen to us.” It broke my heart. Growing up in Milford, we were pretty sheltered from harsher realities. And now late into our twenties we’ve been hit with one that we are devastatingly unprepared for.
But we’re not the type to wallow in it. Anne certainly isn’t. And so about a month ago, Hatkoff came up with an idea. A big one.
Like I said, today is Anne’s birthday. The Hatkoff’s are going out to dinner tonight, and when they return home, Matt will show his mother this website:
WeRanForAnne.com
Matt and the team at We Ran For Anne (of which yours truly is a founding member) are looking to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society in Anne’s name exactly ONE YEAR FROM TODAY.
Here’s how you can help: pledge to run a certain amount of miles over the course of a year. Ideally, you will raise $1 for every mile ran. If you’re not into the whole cardio thing, maybe you can just scrounge around some couch cushions for some extra dough; anything—ANYTHING—helps. And you don’t have to run for Anne: run for anybody you know who has been effected by cancer. Your name and dedication will go up on the Runners page!
I know it’s easy to scroll right past these things. I’m sure there are a lot of people coming to you with hat in hand these days, looking for help in a time of need, especially during the holiday season. If you find it in your heart (or, let’s face it, your bank account) to give a little to help a woman and a family I love, my appreciation would be endless. Thank you so much in advance.
I’m running for Anne. Who are YOU running for?
Check out the website and meet the runners!

AND PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE REBLOG!!!

This is one of my best friends thoughts on my mother and our website. Please check it out if you haven’t already. I gave the website to her as a birthday present last night and it moved her to tears. Don’t you want to be a part of something good? Tis the holiday season. Hopefully together we can put a stop to cancer before it affects more people.
